Information: As you already know, Nepal has started implementing smart driving licenses, including an option to upgrade for existing license holders.
It has hugely affected printing and distribution timing. Even after years of renewing many Nepalese citizens are still waiting for their printed driving license card, so you might have to wait longer.
You can use the receipt as a temporary replacement until you receive your original license.
How to Renew Driving License in Nepal?

To renew your driving license in Nepal, visit the Department of Transport Management office where you originally obtained your license and follow these steps.
Visit DOTM Office
Visit the nearest transportation management office to renew your driving license.
Keep in mind, you can only renew your license at the office where it was originally issued and not at offices in other states.
For example, if you obtained your license from the Chabahil office in Kathmandu, you must visit the same office to renew it.
Receive EDL Print or Token
DOTM has set up token system to manage the crowd, ask for an EDL print to renew license from room 101 (room number might be different).
Some offices does not have token system, you need to directly get in line for renewal.
Verification and Biometrics
Foir verification, simiply provide your smart license card and if you’ve not yet received it then show them your original revenue bill.
If you alread have a smart driving license then they might not take any biometrics.
For those upgrading it need to provide biometrics to DOTM, they will take digital fingerprint and information on citizenships. You can also make necessary changes on your license information.

- Digital Thumb Print
- Digital Signature
Medical Test

After verifiaction for necessary information you must pass your medical test, which is usually an colour blindness or eye test.
They will charge you Rs.15 for this test. It is easy, quick and does not take more than a minute.
Note: If you fail this eyesight test, you might need to return with a doctor’s recommendation letter or wear glasses.
Final Step: Calculate and Pay License Renewal Fees

Final step is to calculate and pay your renewal fees. It is determined based on your license type and fines (Late more than 90 days from the date of expiry).
They accept only cash as payment in office, wait to receive 2 receipts. One is payment (White) and the other (Pink) can be used as a license.
After this, you can go home, and check your license print status through their website.
But what if, I’ve lost my Original License?
If you’ve lost your original license then, use your cash receipt (original) to renew.
For those who lost both their license and receipt, you must get recommendation letter (sifarish) from traffic police and provide it with your original citizenship certificate.
How much is License Renewal Fees in Nepal?

Driving license renewal fees in Nepal start from Rs 1500 for two-wheelers, 2000 for small vehicles such as Cars, Vans and Jeeps, 2500 for heavy vehicles, and the highest fees of Rs 3000 from categories G to H.
All Nepalese license holders must pay their renewal fees after the expiry date. Vehicle types are categorized into 10 groups, labeled A to J, and your renewal fees depend on the category of your vehicle.

How much is Fine for Late Renewal in Nepal?

You will face a 100% penalty fee if you fail to renew your license within the 90-day grace period. If further delayed, a fine of up to 500% of the renewal fee will be charged before the license is canceled.
Personal Experience while Renewing
My license expired on 21st September 2021, and I renewed it on 30th January 2023. As you can see, I was late by 1 year, 4 months and 23 days.
If we see the chart above for a time between 1 year – 2 years, we will get charged 200% as a fine.
I have A and B category licenses, which means I will pay Rs 2000 for renewal and on top of that, I need to pay 200% as a fine.
2000/100 * 200 + Rs 2000 = Rs 6000 in total.

Hello asim, According to information I have from differnt sources. Renewal is not possible if you exeed more than 5 years.
I suggest you to visit your Transport Office for more information on how you can restore or renew you license.
I advice you to visit inquiry counter of Transport office and do not involve with broker as they will charge unresonable prices.
