Below is the process to apply for a driving license in Nepal:
- First, fill out the online driving license form.
- Then, visit the transport office to submit your biometrics and necessary documents.
- Take your Written exam (Likhit Exam).
- After that, take your trial exam (Practical Driving Test).
- Finally, once your license is ready, pay for the license fee and receive it.
After successfully submitting an online license form, you must pay a Rs.500 application fee (Fee for the Written Exam) at your transport office. If you fail to pay on time, then your application will not be accepted.

1. Sign Up or Sign In to DOTM’s License System
First, sign in to the Department of Transport Management’s website; if you have not yet created it, visit DOTM Nepal’s Driving License System to open and verify your profile, address, and identity.
This is an important step because if you have not updated your profile correctly, you will face problems after submitting the online application form.
2. Click on Apply for Driving License
Second, after verifying citizenship and updating your profile and address, your online registration form to apply for the New Driving License option in your profile will be visible. Click on that.
3. Read and Agree to the Terms and Conditions
The third step is to read the terms & conditions and check them. After that, click on the Next button.
4. Select the Category (Vehicle you want to Drive)
In the fourth step, choose the vehicle you wish to apply for by clicking on the image.
Click on Next after selecting the category for Driving Licence.
5. Select your Province and nearest Transport Office
In the fifth step, select the province you are currently in and choose the office closest to your location.
Choosing an office near you will make it easier for you for further processing, such as
- Biometrics and Document submission,
- Payments
- Written test,
- Driving test and
- License collection.
After that, click on “Next” to proceed.
6. Select the Date of your choice
In the sixth step, select the date for your appointment.
However, please note that there are limited daily quotas for applications, so if your desired date is full, you may need to look for other available dates.
Once you find your preferred date, click on “Apply.” An OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to your mobile phone for confirmation.
7. Confirm and complete the Payment
This is the last step of the Online Driving License Registration Process. Please take a moment to review and confirm all the details you have submitted. Once you are sure everything is accurate, click the “Submit” button to proceed.
Download the Payment Voucher and Pay
Click the Pay Now button, download the voucher, print it, and visit the transport office you selected above to pay.
Online payment is now available for selected locations only. For now, you need to visit your selected office for payment.
The submitted form will be canceled if the personal details like name, citizenship details, mobile no. and date of birth, and license category(ies) for add category are found incorrect.
