Schedule 4 of the Constitution of Nepal divided Nepal into 7 Provinces and under that, there are 77 Districts this happened on 20th September 2015. Before this, there were only 75 Districts in Nepal as the Government decided to divide Rukum and Nawalparasi into two different districts on 26th April 2017.

Province No. 1 is the easternmost of the seven provinces that are in Nepal. This province covers an area of 25,905 km2, which is about 17.5% of the country’s total area. The industrial city of Biratnagar is its headquarters. This province is bordered by China in the north, India in the east and south also Bagmati Province and Madhesh Province to the west.

In July 2018 The newly elected Provincial Assembly adopted Gandaki Province as the permanent name by replacing its initial name Province no. 4.
