The job seeker visa allows the holder to gain entry and stay in Portugal solely for job hunting (searching for work). It permits you to engage in a subordinate work activity until the visa expires or a residence permit is issued.

Unlike the UK Seasonal Visa, you can search for work after going to Portugal through IEFP, but you must apply and get a Job Seeker Visa from Nepal or your resident country.

What is the process to Apply for a Job Seeker Visa in Portugal?

To apply for a Job Seeker Visa, you must first fill out an application for a DECLARATION OF EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR IEFP (Institute of Employment and Vocational Training), Prepare the documents mentioned, and then apply for a visa through VFS Global.

a. Application for IEFP Registration

Before applying for the Job Search Visa, you must complete an online application for the declaration of expression of interest for IEFP registration.

IEFP in Portugal stands for Instituto de Emprego e Formação Profissional, which in English means the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training.

This is a simple form where you must declare that after entering Portuguese, you intend to register with the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training to look for work.

Basic Personal information will be collected and provided in a PDF through Email; you can download it and include it in visa processing documents.

You can apply for a Work-Searching Visa from Nepal and other countries, such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia.

If Nepalese citizens living abroad intend to apply for this, you must provide extra documents.

Why do you need to register with IEFP?

Through IEFP, you will get information on Job Offers throughout the country (Portugal), which will help you find work sooner. You only need to present your identity document: A passport for foreign nationals.

You can either apply form “online” or from the nearest Portuguese consulate.

There is no information on online Appointments or Applications – I will soon update you.

Age Limit: The minimum age limit for this visa is 18 years and Above.

Education Qualification: No specific educational qualification is mentioned. You have the option to choose from four years of college or a university degree.

Work Experience: You get the option to show your previous work experience and it also has an unskilled (Not Recommended) option.

You can also select which sector you want to work in in Portugal.

You might need to show your previous work experience certificates.

3. Fees and Cost for Portugal – Job Seeker Visa

The total cost you will pay while applying for the Work Searching Visa in Portugal from Nepal might differ according to your agent.

Relative Support: If you have relatives in Portugal who can support you, you do not need to show a financial statement. But they will need to fill out the Term of responsibility form.

Police Report: You can create Police Clearance Certification online, but to verify it, you will need to pay रु500 – Police Report Verification Process.

Travel & Insurance Expenses: A copy of the return transportation ticket is an important document, Travel Insurance, and Travelling Costs (Within Nepal for different documents and Possibly India for Visa Processing) the cost might be different according to the agent you choose.
